President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, removed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun, from office as head of the Nigeria Police.
Hi his place, President Tinubu appointed the former Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who was recently appointed as an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu.
Though yet to be officially confirmed, checks within the presidency and the Nigeria Police High command said it would soon be confirmed in a matter of minutes.
Disu was recently promoted to the rank of AIG and transferred to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos.
Born on September 4, 1964, Egbetokun due to have retired from the Nigeria Police Force in September 2024, but for the extension granted by President Tinubu.
Efforts to made to get an official reaction from the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, was however unsuccessful.
