European Cup holders, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are one step away from retaining their Champions League crown after holding Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their semi-final to triumph 6-5 on aggregate.

Unfortunately, this match saw Harry Kane being swallowed up, Michael Olise silenced and Dayot Upamecano ran ragged as the Bavarians’ Champions League dream went up in smoke.

After last week’s nine-goal thriller at Parc des Princes, neutrals all across the globe were hoping to witness another all-time classic between two teams blessed with fantastic forward lines.

However, after stunning their hosts with a third-minute opener from Ousmane Dembele, which came after outstanding work down the left wing from the irrepressible Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG proved that they can defend too.

Kane’s lone strike not enough

In their attempt to fight back, Bayern were fortunate to not fall further behind when Manuel Neuer made a superb save to keep out Joao Neves’ header. But they eventually tested Matvey Safonov when Jamal Musiala broke into the penalty area shortly before half-time and had his shot parried by the PSG goalkeeper, while Jonathan Tah sent a free header wide with the final act of the first half.

Coach Vincent Kompany and his men threw absolutely everything at the reigning champions, but they only managed to find a way through a defence magnificently marshalled by Marquinhos in injury time, when Harry Kane fired home after being picked out in the penalty area by Alphonso Davies.

Indeed, it was another great and exciting performance from Coach Luis Enrique’s men as they set up a fascinating final with Arsenal in Budapest, the Hungarian capital on May 30.

The French side will be looking to win their second European Cup just 12 months after lifting their first ever trophy in the continent.
