BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 pandemic insists it has no reason to back down on Monday, January 18, 2021 set by the Federal Government as resumption date for schools across the country.

PTF National Coordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu says for now nothing has warranted the government to recant its earlier decision, noting that the date remains unchanged except stated otherwise by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Speaking in a television programme Tuesday night, Dr Aliyu, said the date remains the same until the Federal Ministry of Education determines otherwise.

The PTF’s position is against the backdrop of comments by Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu on Monday, indicating the January 18, 2021 date for schools to resume nationwide could be reviewed given the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

“What the minister said yesterday was that they were going to review. He didn’t say that they were going to change the date. He said they will review the situation and let the nation know.

“So, for the moment, it is still 18th January until the Ministry of Education comes back either with an alternative date or reconfirm that”, the PTF National Coordinator said.
