BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The lull and state of inactivity subsisting in the Plateau state chapter of the All Progressives Congress was today cracked as Hon. Edward Pwajok declared that he is going to vie for the
party’s senatorial ticket to contest the 2019 general elections on the platform of the APC to represent Plateau North senatorial district in the next National Assembly.
Pwajok, who is the present member representing Jos
South/Jos East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, and first member of the House to be a senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, since the return of democratic rule in 1999, made the declaration in a
well-attended rally at his modest campaign office along the Jos-Bukuru Express Way, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.
In an appeal to the his constituents, Pwajok acknowledged that his decision and declaration are a response to popular agitation by the people to serve them more and better in the Red chamber of the parliament, citing his records especially as member of the House, and his overall political pedigree as reason why the people should match
their call with action by supporting him to emerge as the party’s senatorial flag bearer in the district, and to also win in the general election to become senator.
Pwajok noted that as House member, he is not only holder of the distinction of one of the three sponsors of the highest number of bills, that he has been popular and recurrent on the floor of the House as a sponsor or contributor to popular motions which have direct
positive impact on the country’s citizens.
Describing his performance in the House during his first call as “excellent and a national approval”, Pwajok recalled that he has worked very hard to improve the lot of youth and women by originating and sponsoring bills that enthrone the dignity of women and youth, and generally seek to increase their opportunities and access to quality
life and secured livelihood, as he also expressed satisfaction that he sponsored the bill to abrogate status dichotomy between university degree and the higher national diploma, to end a rivalry that was affecting productivity and harmonious relations in the Nigeria public
service.
With this record of achievements and undisputed experience in parliamentary traditions and the relationship between citizens’ needs and contents of legislation, Pwajok believes he is the man for the job, and accordingly told his constituents to trust him to do more by giving him a higher mandate.
He told his constituency that the challenge of the 2019 general elections will not be easy, especially that the opposition is being desperate and aggressive to capture power at all cost through the said elections, and called on them to only bring out their very best quality to be fielded as candidates for the elections so that the APC will continue to win.
The event was attended by a cream of party faithful, party executives, and a representative of the state governor in the person of the state commissioner for works, Hon. Botmang, and an army of well-wishers who caused a traffic gridlock on the Express Way while the event lasted.
