Rape: Court Remands 40years Old Man For Defiling 11years Girl In Benue
BY AHMED TUKUR – A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State on Tuesday remanded one Sunday Achir, a 40 year old man in prison custody for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
Achir was arraigned before the Court for committing the offense, contrary to section 284 of the penal code, Benue State, 2004.
Police prosecutor, Hyacinth Gbakor, told the Court presided over by presided Magistrate Victor Kor that on June 22, 2020 at about 11:55am, at Tse Agberagba, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue state, Achir raped the 11-year-old girl of the same address.
The prosecutor said that the man raped the girl who was returning back home from the market after assisting her grandmother.
He further said that Achir held the girl and forcefully dragged her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
The police prosecutor however said that investigation into the matter is still ongoing and therefore asked the Court for a date to enable prosecution prove its case.
No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.
In his ruling, the trial Magistrate, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Correctional center and subsequently adjourned the case to September 14, 2020 for further mention.
