Rep Ikwecheghi Assaults Bolt Driver, Threatens To Make Him Disappear
Hon. Alex Ikwecheghi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, has come under the spotlight following a trending video that showed him assaulting a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, for daring to ask for the payment of his services after the delivery of a parcel at his residence.
In the trending video on social media, Ikwecheghi was seen slapping and verbally harassing the driver, who had arrived at the lawmaker’s residence for a delivery.
Eye witnesses account alleged that there was no provocation from the driver whatsoever to warrant the intimidation, harassment and assault meted on the Bold driver, who remained calm throughout the time that Ikwecheghi acted in a dishonourable manner.
In the same video, Ikwecheghi threatened to make the driver to disappear from Nigeria without a trace and nothing would happen and also said that he would personally beat the Bolt driver and lock him up in his generator house.
Ikwecheghi also asked the Bolt driver to cll the Inspector General of Police, adding that nobody can do him anything, saying; “do you know who am I?”
The unwarranted assault on the bolt driver has sparked outrage among constituents and online viewers, who viewed the action of Ikwecheghi as a total breach of the laws of the land and crass abuse of power.
Ikwecheghi who initially said that he was a senator, later introduced himself as an Honourable member of the House of Representatives.
Many of the social media users have therefore called for an urgent probe into the matter saying that from the video, it is clear that the legislator may have been used to making innocent and the down trodden in the society disappear without trace.
expressed disappointment, stating that a public official should act as a protector, not as an aggressor, towards citizens.
Calls for an investigation into the incident are growing as the public seeks accountability for the lawmaker’s alleged actions.
