In what many considered a reward for service rendered, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Barrister Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media.

Also listed in the latest round of appointments are three Nigerians who will serve as Directors-General in their respective agencies.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the new appointees are:

(1) Mr Olawale Olopade — Director-General, National Sports Commission (NSC); (2) Dr. Abisoye Fagade — Director-General, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHT); (3) Dr Adebowale Adedokun — Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP); and (4) Daniel Bwala — Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications (State House).

Olopade, the new NSC Director-General is a sports administrator with many years of experience in the sector. He was a one-time Commissioner of Youth and Sports in Ogun state and also Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2024 National Sports Festival.

The new National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism helmsman, Dr Abisoye Fagade is a marketing communication professional, founder and Managing Director of Sodium Brand Solutions.

Adedokun, now heading BPP, was previously the director of Research/Training and Strategic Planning, while the Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media, Mr. Daniel Bwala is a lawyer and notable public affairs analyst.

The statement by Onanuga further stated that the President has enjoined the newly appointed officials to discharge their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence.

Political commentators note that Bwala had in January 2024 said any form of appointment from President Tinubu would be appreciated but added that his support for the Tinubu’s administration was only motivated by personal conviction.

The lawyer cum public analyst left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the buildup to the 2023 general elections

On one of his visits to President Tinubu, the outspoken Bwala, who was among the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council’s spokespesons, said if supporting the President would take him back to the APC, “so be it”.
