The Action Peoples Party (APP), Rivers State chapter, has commended the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, that overturned the earlier judgement of Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court that barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), from providing the Voter Register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISEC), for the October 5, 2024 local government election.

Hon. Sunny Wokekoro, State chairman of the APP, in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, following the decision of the appellate court, said that the judgement has restored the faith of the people in the judiciary, which was shaken by Justice Lifu’s ruling.

Wokekoro also said that the judgement confirmed that the election, which resulted in the APP’s victory, was conducted in accordance with the law and free from any illegal activities.

The Rivers APP chairman also said that the judgment will strengthen elected chairmen and councillors to concentrate on discharging their duties of delivering good governance to the people of the state.

He further said; “We are delighted by the judgment of the Appeal Court. You may recall that when Justice Lifu gave the judgment, we had completely condemned it as we believed his decision to preside over the matter lacked merit.

“We had believed that a competent court of jurisdiction would address the anomaly, and today the Appeal Court has done the needful. As a party, this judgment has further cemented our victory. It goes to show that the election conducted by RISEC was devoid of any illegality.

“With this judgment, our party members who won the election can now focus on delivering good governance to the people.

“We are thankful to the people of Rivers State for their patience as they waited for this victory. We assure them that the APP-elected council chairmen and councillors will not go back on their promises,” he assured.
