…Promises to resolve political crisis
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum rose from a meeting in Enugu, Enugu State on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 declaring their commitment and pledge to support the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his government in the political crisis that engulfed the state.
The PDP Governors Forum said the body and other organs of the Party have vowed to do everything possible to ensure the resolution of the political crisis in Rivers State thus, advised those fanning the embers of conflict and crisis with the aim of distracting Governor Fubara as well as destabilize the state government to desist, and allow him deliver good governance to Rivers people unimpeded.
These were contained in a communique issued at the end of the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Government House, Enugu on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
The other issues that topped deliberations at the meeting included the upcoming party congresses, Edo and Ondo governorship elections, implications of the Supreme Court judgement on Local Government autonomy, protracted national minimum wage negotiations, State of the economy, among others.
In the communique read by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Forum specifically took note of the crises in the Rivers State Chapter of the party and commits to ensuring peace.
The communiques states in part; “The Forum resolved to stand by His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State; while at the same time employ wider consultations with stakeholders for a peaceful resolution and thus find a lasting solution to the crises”.
The meeting of the Forum was attended by Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) as chairman; Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) as vice chairman; Governors Peter Mbah as host; Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom); Douye Diri (Bayelsa); Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta); Godwin Obaseki (Edo); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau); Agbu Kefas (Taraba); and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
