RMAFC, EFCC Partnership Boosts Federation Account With N192bn
BY EDMOND ODOK – The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) says robust partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has yielded over one hundred and ninety two billion Naira (N192bn) into the Federation Account over the years.
The amount comprises N74 billion from 2008 to 2015 and N118 billion between 2016 and 2019 that came through monitoring and recovery exercises on revenue generating agencies, including banks and companies.
Chairman of the Commission, Mohammed Bello Shehu, who stated this during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa in Abuja recently, said this is in addition to the discoveries of over two hundred and five million dollars ($205,013,760) from some companies in the oil and gas sector.
Bello lamented that rather than remitting the huge funds into the government coffers, the erring companies decided to sue RMAFC and EFCC with the claim that, both agencies have no right by law to request for such huge sum belonging to Federal government to be remitted into the Federation account.
He assured that nothing would distract the RMAFC from its relentless tracking of all revenue accruals through effective collaboration with the anti-corruption agency.
The RMAFC boss said both organisations would continue to exploit and build on areas that have yielded positive results over the years.
Bello also appreciated the EFCC and the passion of the Chairman in fighting corruption in the country
In his remarks, the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, promised that the anti-graft Commission would further strengthen its ties with RMAFC to increase revenue generation for the nation while also ensuring effective blockage of leakages in the revenue chain
According to Bawa, the plan would achieve better results if defaulting revenue generating agencies are prosecuted, having been empowered by law to liaise with agencies like RMAFC in the execution of their mandates.
While promising to avail RMAFC the opportunity for capacity building from EFCC Academy, Bawa canvassed the re-examining of current delays in the generation processes for timely remittances from revenue generating agencies.
