BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has cautioned States and Local Governments to guard against being swindled by criminal elements in the name of securing more revenue allocations for them.

The Commission was reacting to reports that some individuals and groups have been approaching states and local governments posing as its officials detailed to collate data aimed at increasing revenue allocations both tiers of government.

Raising the alarm in Abuja on Thursday, Chairman of RMAFC, Engineer Elias Mbam said; “The Commission has just concluded a nationwide advocacy and sensitization exercise on data gathering and management which is targeted at advising various stakeholders on the importance of maintaining a functional and reliable data bank for use in the computation of indices for the respective State and Local Governments.”

According to him; “Revenue allocation to States and Local Government Areas is based on the revenue Allocation formula which is a product of law and cannot be influenced by any individual or group of interests.”

In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Nwachukwu Christian, the RMAFC therefore urged states and local governments “to always confirm from the Chairman of the commission any request for data.

The statement further explained that all “genuine visit and data collection will always be in writing, signed and addressed by the chairman of the Commission and addressed to respective state governments and relevant authorities in the states”.
