BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Players and officials of Rovers Football Club, who were involved in a vehicular accident on their way to face Sporting Lagos FC in the Nigeria National League (NNL) are currently responding well to treatment and recovering from the road crash injuries.
In the road accident which occurred near Asaba, the Delta state capital on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, several players and staff sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment, with one player in critical condition.
An OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM ROVERS FC MANAGEMENT stated thus: “Rovers Football Club Management deeply regrets to inform the public of a tragic road incident that occurred while the team was en route to Lagos for their scheduled fixture against Sporting Lagos FC.
“What was meant to be a journey of hope and purpose has turned into a painful and distressing moment for the club. The team bus, carrying players, officials, and staff, lost control and tumbled along the way. The incident has left some of our key players injured, and we are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our players is currently in a critical condition and receiving intensive medical care in the hospital.
“Our players are not just representatives of the club, they embody the spirit, pride, and unity of Rovers FC. The pain they are currently going through is deeply felt by every member of the Rovers family. This moment reminds us all of the fragility of life and the importance of unity, compassion, and gratitude.
“The club remains fully committed to the well-being of our injured players, and we are ensuring they receive the best possible medical attention and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, especially our player who is in critical condition, as we continue to stand by them during this difficult time.
“Despite the pain and uncertainty, we remain steadfast in faith. We believe in healing, strength, and restoration. We trust that this difficult moment will not define us, but will instead strengthen our bond and resilience as a team and as a family.
