Ronaldo Scores Twice On Man United’s 2nd Debut
- As Lukaku’s brace fires Chelsea to victory
Five time FIFA World Footballer of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored a brace on his Manchester United return as the Club moved atop English Premiership table on Saturday.
The Coach Ole Gunner Solskjaer men were on inspiring form as they beat Newcastle United 4-1 at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese international needed only 47 minutes to reopen his goalscoring account for the Red Devils, 12 years after he last featured for the team.
The 36-year-old forward, who rejoined United from Italian champions, Juventus in August, tapped in from close range to give the hosts a first-half lead in added time.
His second goal came just after the hour mark, driving a left-foot shot under Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman after Javier Manquillo had equalised for the visitors.
Thereafter, Bruno Fernandes extended United’s lead with a thumping long-range effort that flew past Woodman into the top-left corner.
Substitute Jesse Lingard made it four with a superb finish into the other corner after an intricate move to set the Theatre of Dreams alight on a long weekend celebration.
At Stamford Bridge, Romelu Lukaku netted his first home goal for Chelsea, 10 years after arriving in West London for his first stint at the club.

After the match, the returnee Blues striker admitted fulfilling a childhood fantasy in finally opening his account in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful.
The Belgian’s brace on the night helped Chelsea to 3-0 win over Aston Villa as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
Lukaku kissed the club badge as he celebrated his opener in front of Blues fans after beating Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer on his 15th appearance at the stadium overall.
His clinical finish through Steer’s legs came from a precise pass from Mateo Kovacic inside his own half.
Dean Smith’s side created plenty of chances after conceding and managed four shots on target, but could not find a way past Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Villa were punished for their wasted chances when Kovacic doubled Chelsea’s lead early in the second half with a first-time finish into the bottom corner from Tyrone Mings’ weak back pass.
Lukaku sealed the win for Chelsea in injury time with a powerful finish down from the edge of the box.
With the victory, Thomas Tuchel’s side moved into second place on the table, with the Blues reaching a significant milestone becoming only the second team in Premier League history to reach 600 wins in the competition (Manchester United have 689).
