Senator Abbo Weeps, Tenders Apology For Assaulting A Nursing Mother
The Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Elisha Abbo on Wednesday tendered an apology for assaulting a nursing mother at a sex toys shop in Abuja in March.
Abbo at a press briefing in Abuja, wept as he tendered an apology to mothers, Nigerians, his political party; the Peoples Democratic Party, the National Assembly, his family, the victim and her family as well as all those that felt embarrassed by his unacceptable conduct.
He said the episode has taught him a very great lesson both as a private citizen and a public officer, particularly as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria upon whom public confidence is bestowed.
The embattled senator said; “It is with a deep sense of remorse and responsibility that I, Senator Ishaku Abbo (SIA) profoundly apologize to all Nigerians, the Senate, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), my family, friends as well as our mothers – the Nigerian women.
“I personally apologize to Bibra and her family for my action towards her, which has brought immense discomfort in our body polity.
“I have never been known or associated with such actions in the past. Regardless of what transpired prior to my expression of anger, I am sincerely sorry and plead that all men and women of good conscience should have the heart to forgive me. To err is human, to forgive is divine.
“To the Church of God everywhere in the world, I am sorry. As an Ambassador of Christ, much is expected of me.
“My family and religious upbringing do not give approval to such conduct and for this, as a leader, I seek forgiveness before God and all those who feel offended by my action.
However, the Senate on Wednesday set up a probe panel headed Senator Sam Egwu, to investigate the act of assault committed by Senator Abbo.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan announced the membership of the panel following a point of order raised by Senator Uba Sani (APC Kaduna Central) and supported by other senators on the floor.
The Senate President gave the panel two weeks within which to submit its report.
In a related development, the Police on Wednesday prevented some women protesters led by Aisha Yesufu, who stormed the National Assembly to protest the assault by Senator Abbo on the nursing mother.
The protesting women called for the arrest of Senator Abbo before departing th National Assembly.
Senator Abbo was caught on camera beating up a woman at a Sex Toy shop, allegedly on the premise that the lady expressed ill feelings at the way one of the three ladies he went to the shop with vomited in the shop as well as allegedly described him as drunk.
The video of the ugly incidence that took place in March 2019 which was published by an online newspaper, Premium Times, went viral and attracted condemnations from different segments of Nigerians.
