BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has constituted a five-man ‘Dialogue Committee’ headed by former deputy senate president, Senator Ibrahim Nasir Mantu, to engage the 10 gubernatorial
aspirants on its platform with a view to prune it down and possibly come up with a consensus candidate.
Inaugurating the committee at the party secretariat today, state chairman of the PDP, Hon Damishi Sango, noted that all the 10 aspirants are from the Southern senatorial district of the State, and that each of them is good enough, with the ‘worst’ among them being “far more competent than Governor Lalong”.
With just five days to complete the assignment and submit a report to the Party, Sango charged the committee to be fair to all, but should sure ultimately that it comes out with the most credible, acceptable, and undisputed result.
Sango also used the occasion to debunk “unfounded rumours and speculations making the rounds that there is a preferred candidate”, reassuring all aspirants that the entire process leading to the emergence of candidates will be transparent, because there will be level-playing ground, no imposition, no acts of impunity.
Sango also allayed the fears of some party faithful that he is using his position to influence the order of things to favour his
own emergence as a running mate to the eventual candidate, or for him to emerge as senator, maintaining that he has never had the ambition to be deputy governor to anybody throughout his political career.
In a vote of thanks, committee chairman, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, appreciated the dominant pro-PDP atmosphere in Plateau, noting that the State cannot afford to leave Lalong in the Government House beyond
May 28, 2019. Mantu promised that the committee will settle down to work immediately, and make sure that it is at its best and complete the assignment within schedule, to pave way for smooth and hitch-free primaries.
Hon. Emmanuel Goar, one-time speaker of the State House of Assembly, and immediate past Reps member for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency, is to serve as secretary to the committee.
