Senior Lawyer, Pwul Assures On Nigeria’s Unity, Eyes Plateau Guber Seat
BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY – A Legal practitioner and 2023 governorship aspirant, Garba Pwul (SAN), says despite disturbing calls for secession and growing threats to its unity, Nigeria will not break up as a country.
This is as the Senior lawyer reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership that will entrench and deliver dividends of democracy to the Plateau people if elected as Governor come 2023.
With his promise of working assiduously to promote peace and unity on the Plateau, Pwul expressed confidence that Nigeria will emerge from all its challenges stronger and more united as the most populous black nation in the world.
Looking at Nigeria after 61 years of Independence anniversary, Pwul told journalists in Jos that coming from the colonial era with all the debilitating challenges, Nigeria’s various tribes can afford to continuously work on understanding themselves better, noting that tolerance and appreciating one another will strengthen national cohesion and move the country forward.
He notwithstanding the ups and downs, the good and bad circumstances that Nigeria is currently passing through, there has been tremendous successes and laudable strides in governance, adding; “I disagree with those who have said that there is nothing to celebrate as Nigeria is a failed state.”
The Senior Advocate maintained that the country will be better for all when the government and citizens dutifully respect the laws of the land and allow them to work irrespective of who is involved or affected.
Pwul said respect for the rule of law will strengthen national institutions; give a sense of belonging to all contending interests; and enthrone justice in every aspect of the national process.
On happenings in Plateau, he said the last six years has seen the State faring better under Governor Simon Lalong in terms of building and consolidating peace initiatives, given that emerging challenges were quickly nipped in the bud through the administration’s proactive outlook and prompt response in activating strategic mechanisms to facilitate calmness and return of peace across the State.
Pledging to bring together all religious and community leaders for the common good of Plateau people, the jurist, who is eyeing the governorship seat come 2023, said having spent over 40 years in legal practice on the Plateau, ”I am well-equipped with sufficient knowledge to contest for number one seat and change the fortune of the state.”
Further promoting his gubernatorial aspiration, Pwul said the time has come for people to jettison sentiment and embrace credibility for effective development, stressing that he has all it takes to become the governor in 2023, and urged the people to trust him with the mandate by believing in his ability and competence to serve as the State’s Chief Executive.
He said having worked out a comprehensive template for the gubernatorial project, the Plateau people stand to a lot in terms of peace, harmonious communal relations, and the restoration of the State’s past glory.
According to him, better days are ahead for the people as his administration will unfold and implement people-oriented programmes and policies to transform the State for the overall good of all.
