Shake-up In Nigerian Army As COAS Approves New Postings Of GOCs, PSOs, Commanders, Others

As part of the strategic move to enhance operational effectiveness and administrative efficiency of the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede has approved the appointments of new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), new Corps Commanders and a Commander for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

The newly appointed GOCs included; Major General OT Olatoye from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to Headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation Udoka (OPUK) as GOC 82 Division/Commander JTF OPUK while Major General EF Oyinlola was moved from the Department of Military Secretary to Headquarters 3 Division as GOC 3 Division/ Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

In the same vein, Major General AGL Haruna was appointed as the new GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation Hadin Kai and Maj Gen IA Ajose as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation Fasan Yanma while Major General GM Mutkut was posted from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to the Headquarters Multi-National Joint Task Force Njamena as the Force Commande.

Similarly, Major General GO Adeshina has been redeployed from the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Signals to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Director General.

Other senior officers appointed as Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters include Major General LA Fejokwu who was moved from the National Defence College to the Department of Army Administration a as Chief of Administration (Army), while Major General GU Chibuisi was moved from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Civil Military Affairs as Chief of Civil Military Affairs and Major General AS Ndalolo moved from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Army Training as Chief of Training (Army).

The shakeup also indicated that Major General OS Abai was moved from the Department of Army Training to the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation as Chief of Transformation and Innovation just as Major General JH Abdussalam was moved from Headquarters, 6 Division to the Department of Special Services and Programmes as Chief of Special Services and Programmes.

It also included Major General EI Okoro, who was redeployed from the Department of Army Logistics to the Department of Military Secretary and appointed as Military Secretary (Army) while Major General MC Kangye moved from Headquarters, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery to Defence Headquarters as the Director of Media Operations.

Some senior officers appointed as Corps Commanders include Major General OC Ajunwa from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to the Headquarters, Nigerian Army Armour Corps as Commander and Major General HT Wesley from the Department of Special Services and Programmes to Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps as Commander while Major General TT Numbere was moved from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Engineers as Commander.

Also affected in the shakeup included; Major General NC Ugbo, who was moved from the Department of Civil Military Affairs to Headquarters, Nigerian Army Signals as Commander and Major General ZL Abubakar from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to Headquarters, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery as Commander while Major General AP Oguntola was moved from the Nigerian Army College of Education Science and Technology to the Headquarters of Nigerian Army Education Corps as Corps Commander.

In the same vein, Major General JO Sokoya was appointed as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Training Centre and Major General UM Alkali appointed as Commandant, Army War College Nigeria, while Major General FS Etim was moved from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to the Nigerian Army School of Infantry as Commandant.

Other appointments included; Major General AB Mohammed moved from the Department of Army Operations to Depot Nigerian Army as commandant and Major General IE Ekpenyong was appointed as Commandant of Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering while Major General AO Adegbite was appointed as Commandant of Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport just as Brig-General AM Umar was redeployed from Army War College Nigeria to Warrant Officers Academy as Commandant.

These were contained in a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who said that the Chief of Army Staff directed all the newly appointed senior officers to bring renewed vigour, dedication and commitment to their duties, particularly while ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency and other threats to national security.

The COAS also charged them to ensure that the welfare of troops remained paramount as they assumed their new appointments, stressing that the reshuffling underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring robust and dynamic leadership structure capable of addressing emerging security challenges.
