IGP Egbetokun Orders Adoption Of New Crime Reduction Strategy

As part of efforts aimed at enhancing public safety and operational efficiency, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all police commands and formations nationwide to implement a New Year Strategic Action Plan towards reducing crime and improving law enforcement effectiveness.

Accordingly, IGP Egbetokun is to meet with Strategic Commanders virtually on Monday, January 13, 2025 to ensure effective implementation of the directive.

A statement by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, said the directive by IGP Egbetokun highlighted the importance of strategic planning and statistical analysis in combating crime, and urged officers to adopt a proactive rather than reactive approach.

It stated; “This directive comes at a critical time, with assessments showing a need for increased vigilance, attitudinal changes, and proactive law enforcement in communities.

“Key initiatives in the Action Plan include intelligence-led policing, training and capacity building, public awareness campaigns, and strengthening community relations,” it said.

The IGP called on all officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their duties.
