Shehu Sani Slams Wike Over Tinubu’s Visit
- Says action, public holiday indicate ‘desperation for favours’
BY EDMOND ODOK – Civil Rights activist and former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has chided Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for declaring public holiday and shutting down businesses over the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the State
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the eighth (8th) National Assembly, described Wike’s action as an obvious sign of “desperation for favours.”
In a message posted to his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, the Social Critic rubbished the Rivers Governor’s directives, even as he urged the President-elect to desist from encouraging such brazen and overbearing arrangements to avoid a situation where it readily becomes a norm among political office holders.
The Kaduna-born former lawmaker wrote thus; “Commissioning a project is a mark of a great achievement. Kudos. But grounding the economic, social & educational activities of the state for that purpose is a mark of desperation for favours & accommodation by a lickspittle.”
Also, he ended the tweet saying; “Tinubu can say no to that or else it becomes the norm.”
Senator Sani’s tweet came on the heels of Tuesday’s statewide broadcast in which Governor Wike declared Wednesday, May 3, 2023 as a public holiday to enable Rivers State residents troop out en masse and welcome Asiwaju Tinubu to the state.
The Governor also directed that all shops and business premises on the Rumuola to Rumuokwuta roads in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area should remain closed between 8.00am and 3.00pm on Wednesday.
Additionally, Labour unions and security agencies were instructed by the State Government to ensure compliance with the order.
