Shi’ites Demand Unconditional Release Of El-Zakzaky
BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), with members from Bauchi, Jigawa Kaduna, Kano, Niger and Zamfara States, on protested demanding for the unconditional release of their leader, Sheikh El-Zakzaky from detention.
The protesters also demanded for the release or extermination of the remaining members of IMN over their continuous detention in prison.
The protesters who blocked all the major highways in Kaduna metropolis chanting ‘Free El-Zakzaky, we demand justice, we are Nigerians’ rented the air with release El-zakzaky or kill us all” campaign.
Spokesperson for the protesters, Mallam Nuhu Mafara, told journalists that they were out in large number to agitate for the unconditional release of their leader who has been in detention for 612 days.
Mafara further said; “The protest was a joint action against the illegal detention of our leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, with members from Kano Jigawa, Niger, Bauchi, Zamfara and other northern states are here today to demand the unconditional release of our leader.
“Today also marks over 250 days since the Court of the land set him (El-Zakzaky) free, but the cabals holding Nigerians ransom have stubbornly refused to obey court orders.”
A press statement later issued to newsmen by Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello said, “While there are known figures in Nigeria today agitating for the breakup of the country into pieces, with some even issuing ultimatum to the government but, here is Sheikh El-Zakzaky, who has never committed any treasonable offence languishing in jail.
“We will not rest on our oars until justice is observed to the most oppressed Shiekh of our time, Sheikh El-Zakzaky.”
