Smart Adeyemi Wins Kogi West Senatorial Poll

BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Smart Adeyemi, has finally emerged as winner of the Kogi West senatorial district election.

In declaring the results on Saturday in Kogi State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Senator Adeyemi scored a total of 88,373 votes to defeat Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 62,133 votes.

According to the Returning Officer in the election, Professor Olajide Lawal, who announced the results, Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) placed third with 659 votes.

Trailing in fourth and fifth positions are  John Olabode and Adeyemi Taiwo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Elements Progressive Party (NEPP) with 262 and 119 votes.

Senator Adeyemi’s victory in the keenly contested election is coming two weeks after INEC declared as inconclusive the initial court-ordered re-run poll that held on Saturday, November 16, 2019.
