
The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) has sent packing with immediate effect all political appointees and office holders in the state.
He said the decision was taken based on the powers conferred on him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A statement on Wednesday by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator explained that those affected include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (CoS), all Commissioners, Chairpersons and members of Boards, Agencies, co6mmissions, and Parastatals.
Others are all Special Advisers (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Special Assistants (SAs) and Personal Assistants (PAs).
According to the statement; “This suspension takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The affected officers are to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their MDAs.
“Where there may be no Permanent Secretary, they are to hand over to the most senior Director/Head of Administration”.
Sworn in as Sole Administrator on Wednesday, March 19, by President Tinubu after the state of emergency declaration, Ibas, has pledged to work with other stakeholders to ensure peace and order is restored in the oil-rich state.
The former Chief of Naval Staff (CNN), had told State House correspondents after his swearing-in at the Presidential Villa, Abuja that; “If the main issue is that of maintaining law and order in the state, I think for any meaningful activities to take place in Rivers State, that is the utmost task that I have”.
