Four suspects, including a native doctor, are currently in the Rivers State Police Command’s custody over the ritual killing of two seven-year-old children, Chizaram Onuche and Chidinma Onuche.
The suspects were arrested following a swift operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following the transfer of a report from the Special Area Division of the Police Command.
According to the Command; “on March 23, 2025, at approximately 9 a.m., Police operatives raided a location in Rukpokwu, where they arrested the prime suspect, Aniekan Sunday Uko (27), alongside his girlfriend, Luis John Uwelemele (19), a native doctor, Kingsley Opurum (43), and Friday Silas (47), who allegedly provided the uncompleted building where the crime took place.
“During interrogation, Aniekan confessed that he was introduced to ritual killings after visiting the native doctor, Kingsley Opurum, who promised him wealth in exchange for human blood and body parts.
“Aniekan admitted to luring the children, drugging them with a sedative drink called ‘Black Bullet’, before slaughtering them and collecting their blood in a bottle.”
The Command disclosed that chilling evidence was recovered from the crime scene, including: a kitchen knife used in the killings; a bottle filled with the victims’ blood; an empty can of ‘Black Bullet’, the drink used to sedate the children; and a spoon used to scoop the victims’ blood.
It also explained that photographs were taken, and the bodies of the deceased were thereafter deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Pledging that the Police would ensure justice is done in the case, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, condemned the act, describing it as “heinous and barbaric.”
Further assuring the public that all suspects would face the full wrath of the law, the Police boss said that investigations are ongoing to uncover further accomplices.
Amid the public outrage trailing the dastardly act, CP Adepoju urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest station, even as the Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of all residents across Rivers State.
Meanwhile, with members of the public demanding tougher measures against fraudulent native doctors and perpetrators of ritual killings, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Command is focused on bringing to book all those associated with criminal activities in the oil rich State.
The Police Spokesperson said the Command would inform the public with more updates as investigations and events unfold in the case.
