Activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, declared that the Department of State Services (DSS), has joined the fray of attacking him after the failure of the Nigeria Police Force.
Sowere, who stated this while responding to the letter written to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the DSS, said that one option he will not be taking is deleting the tweet on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He also said that X has declined the request by the DSS to delete one of his posts in which he criticised President Tinubu.
Sowore said X notified him of the request from the DSS, saying that he woke up to yet another act of national disgrace, an assault on institutions, and on common sense.
The activist said that he saw the DSS action coming since last Tuesday, when a group of hired protesters paraded around the Federal High Court and the Federal Ministry of Justice, chanting that he should “leave Tinubu alone,” even demanding that the DSS should arrest him.
In the words of Sowere; “So, it came as no surprise to discover a ridiculously crafted letter from the DSS to X (formerly Twitter), demanding that my Twitter account be deactivated within 24 hours.
“I won’t be surprised if the same has been extended to my @Facebook page, where similar views have gained currency against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and redundant, corrupt, and non-performing state governors.
“The brazenness of this is not only unconstitutional, and I need not even mention the constitution, because these guys are outlaws who operate above their own laws; however, this latest self-disgrace by the DSS is a desecration of national dignity.
“The Tinubu regime has long hidden behind the Nigeria Police Force to harass, torture, and persecute me.
“One option I will not be taking is deleting that tweet. Thank you,” he stressed.
The notice from X, which Sowore shared has therefore confirmed that the DSS asked the Corporation to take action on his account, @YeleSowore, over a post said to contravene Nigerian law.
X said it had not taken any action on the reported content owing to its policy of informing users when such legal requests are made, emphasising that it strongly believes in defending and respecting the voice of its users.
X said; “It is our policy to notify our users if we receive a legal request from an authorised entity (such as law enforcement or a government agency) to remove content from their account”.
Sowore has repeatedly accused the Tinubu administration of targeting him with harassment, arrests, and trumped-up charges.
