BY EDMOND ODOK – Following accusations of alleged nepotism and witch-hunt, the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation (OAuGF) says the recent redeployment of personnel in the office is meant to promote efficiency and accountability in its service delivery.

Consequently, the office said there is no truth in the rumours being peddled in public space about issues of ethnic, political, religious, and geographical considerations taking centre stage in the postings and redeployment recently carried out by the OAuGF.

A statement by the Head of Press, OAuGF, Eme Oqua, stated thus; “I wish to set the records straight in view of unsubstantiated allegations of misconduct by some faceless individuals.

“Section 85 of the constitution empowers the Auditor-General to exercise his powers without recourse to any other authority. It was in the exercise of such powers that the AuGF has been redeploying staff to areas that are commensurate to their grade levels, experiences and qualifications”.

According to Oqua, the postings and redeployments were done irrespective of the ethnic or religious background of affected staff members, adding that the AuGF has demonstrated on several occasions that he is a detribalised Nigerian.

“His personal aides and core support staff cut across ethnic, political, religious and geographical divides”, the Media Officer said, even as she also dismissed the allegation of alteration of seniority of the directors as ‘baseless and unfounded.’

She further added that; “The public is, therefore, enjoined to always crosscheck facts with the OAuGF on the phone number, 2348110088888”
