Challenges government on awareness campaigns
UNILAG Senate Building Inaugurates UNILAG’s new Senate Building foyer
BY CHINYERE OBIORA, LAGOS – Amid skepticisms expressed in some quarters, General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Pastor Daniel Olukoya is begging Nigerians to fully embrace and obey all COVID-19 safety protocols currently put in place by the federal Government.
Dr Olukoya said though some people still consider the virus a ruse, as a microbiologist, he was sure it exist and Nigerians should not take things for granted in the interest of their health and overall well-being.
The popular cleric, who spoke while inaugurating the remodeled lobby in University of Lagos (UNILAG)’s Senate Building yesterday, said given the worrying perception by some, government must undertake massive awareness campaign to persuade Nigerians that the virus exist.
According to the clergyman; “The first thing is to convince the populace that it is real because some people don’t believe it exists. But I am a man of God and I have prayed for so many people with the same infirmity and I know that it exists.
“So, we should not joke with it. People should obey all the rules. And most importantly, we should pray that this pandemic will go away.”
While inaugurating the foyer, Dr Olukoya prayed for God’s blessings and awesome mercies upon members of the university community.
In his remarks, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, commended Olukoya for being a worthy alumnus of the institution.
He recounted that the Pastor Olukoya had in the past donated a Research Laboratory to the university and while also granting his request to remodel the foyer last year.
Prof Ogundipe said; “Today, we have our father in the Lord, an alumnus of the university, donating this.”
Reliving his encounter with Pastor Olukoya on the remodelling project, the Vice Chancellor said; “Last year, I mentioned it to him and he said consider it done.”
