Suspected Terrorists Kill 12 Persons In Kaduna
- Over 20 others sustained injuries
Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have reportedly attacked and killed 12 persons and injured many others at Maro Junction, a weekly Market in Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to available reports, the criminal elements stormed the market at about 3 pm on Wednesday and opened fire on both the traders and visitors to the market.
Confirming the invasion and resultant shooting spree by the assailants, former Chairman of the Kajuru Local Government, Cafra Caino, disclosed that so far 12 bodies have been recovered while 20 others who sustained various degrees of injuries were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Caino told some reporters that the weekly market was recording the second attack on traders, business owners and customers when business transactions were at their peak.
He stated thus; āThe situation is critical and has thrown residents around the area into confusion while they scampered for safety in neighbouring villages.
āSecurity operatives drafted to the area have already left. We are appealing to the government to deploy security operatives to help restore normalcy”.
Also an eyewitness account indicated that the people were caught unawares and those who lost their lives in the incident were fell by bullets from the attackers’ sporadic shootings.
However, efforts to contact the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, or the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Auwal Musa Shugaba to react to the market incident proved abortive as calls to their phones failed to connect before press time.
