Taraba APC To Gov Ishaku: Showcase Your Achievements And Not Attacks On The People
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Taraba state has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led state government to concentrate on showcasing its achievements in the last four years to woo votes of the people rather than engaging in baseless attacks on the main opposition party in the state.
This is just as the state government insists that APC is responsible for the level of violence in the state and for attacking her supporters during the presidential campaign rally and perpetuating other criminal activities in the state.
Spokesman of the APC in the state, Mr Aaron Artimas, who stated this at a press conference in Jalingo, alleged that the PDP is indulging in character assassination of the APC because it has nothing to show for the mandate given to it in the last four years.
Artimas said that the state government has shown a high sense of irresponsibility by politicising the unfortunate deaths of some persons at the presidential campaign rally in the state last week Thursday and condemned the alleged attack on party members at various locations in the state when they were returning after the rally.
According to him; “Having spent more than three and half years in power, one would expect the PDP to be glowing and floating in the bliss of wide support and commendation, but instead it is all gloom and wailing. A party in power should not degenerate to this low level of lying, misinformation and paranoia in the face of imminent defeat.
“Instead of crying wolf, we expect PDP to justify their stay in power and showcase their achievements rather Governor Ishaku should pack his loads and vacate government House.
“We have continuously complained and cried out about the army of thugs being groomed by the government in the state. Young people are funded by the government to open political kiosks all over the state capital and beyond, numbering about seven hundred. These kiosks were fully equipped with dangerous weapons and intoxicating substance to encourage the youth to avail themselves of government patronage in the attempt to intimidate and silence the opposition parties.
“These PDP youth have not only become difficult to manage but have also expanded their activities to other criminal tendencies. We are aware that some of these aggrieved youth were responsible for the destruction of PDP billboards and those of others following the failure by the government to pay for their service during the PDP presidential campaign rally in Jalingo.”
However, the senior special assistant on media to Governor Darius Ishaku, Mr Bala Dan Abu in a statement said the APC presidential rally ended in the tragic deaths of several, stressing that this has become the trademark of the APC as a violent party.
Dan Abu said that henceforth, the state government would not sit back and allow wanton destruction of lives and property in the name of politics.
