…Says, everybody knows who won that election

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi has criticised the conduct and outcome of the Edo Governorship election that was conducted in September 21, 2024.

Obi pointedly said that it was the most undemocratic election, stressing that everyone knows the actual winner of the winner who was denied.

Mr Peter Obi, who stated these on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, while speaking at the memorial service organised in honour of the late Chief Edwin Clark, said that democracy was being abused in the country.

In his words; “The Edo Governorship election was the undemocratic election ever. Everybody knows the real winner of the election”.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) winner of the election despite complaints and protests from the opposition political parties particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) concerning the outcome of the results declared.

Similarly, Election Observers criticised the collation process of the results which they noted, lacked of transparency.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the election, Mr Asue Ighodalo was believed by many of the Election Observers and Civil Society Organisations that participated in the election as the true winner of the Edo Governorship election.
