Hon Harrison Ogara, a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), has adduced reasons to why opposition political party members are defecting to the ruling party, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogara said most of the politicians were defecting to the APC not because of performance but, owing to the fear that 2027 elections would be rigged thus, they want to join them to write results without any consideration for the electorates.

This was as he declared that his continued support for Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election remains unshaken and he will continue to be an ardent supporter of the former governor of Anambra.

Ogara said that irrespective of the political party Mr Obi chooses to contest the 2027 presidential election, he will remain with him and give the needed support.

He however, said that if the crisis in the Labour Party becomes intractable and movement becomes inevitable, he would go with Mr Peter Obi, who is his leader to wherever he goes.

Ogara dismissed insinuations in certain quarters that he was planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.

Enugu State has witnessed of recent the defection of Labour Party National Assembly and State lawmakers to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ogara expressed shock at the rumours being peddled on social media platforms with regards to his alleged defection, stressing that at no point whatsoever, did he plan any defection, let alone to the APC that has a different ideology with his.

In the words of Ogara; “I don’t know where they got the information from, I feel so embarrassed. I had to go and search for it, look at the details of, but I discovered it’s been done by APC e-rats.

“I just think people want to pre-empt and see what I will say. But I want to say it clearly that I am still in the Labour Party and my confidence is that the Labour Party will still be there any day, any time.

“Why should I defect to APC? That is the first question. You must have a reason for defecting to any party. If I see what APC is doing and it is to the detriment of the people, it shows that their ideologies don’t align with mine. So, I have no reason to do that,” he stressed.

He also ruled out defection to the PDP, saying that the PDP rejected him ab-initio before he found a place where he was accepted to contest and eventually won.

Ogara said; “Why should I leave the place? It will amount to moral bankruptcy to abandon the party that made you what you are. Assuming that your house is not well-built, you stay put and rebuild your house, not to go to other people’s houses of those who appeared to have put their house in order. It is a lie from the pit of hell. I have no reason to move. I have integrity for myself”.
