The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, said that the placard he once carried was not to protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Adeboye, who stated this against the backdrop of a viral photo of him with a placard, said the photo image was from a prayer walk in 2020, five years after former President Jonathan left office in 2015.

The respected cleric who stated these during the church’s November Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, accused a journalist of twisting facts to portray him as “a wicked man” who protested against Jonathan.

In the words of Adegboye; “True, I carried a placard. I can’t deny that. It was important. It was a prayer walk. We wanted to pray”.

The RCCG General Overseer further specifically said that the walk was in compliance with a directive by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which declared a three-day fasting and prayer programme.

“Churches embark on prayer walks around their premises. The CAN chairman said all churches should do a prayer walk near their churches. That’s what I did,” he said.

Adeboye explained that the placard he carried was in 2020 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, but a journalist twisted it by saying that it was in 2015and made everybody to swallow it.

Pastor Adeboye had on February 2, 2020, led RCCG members on a prayer walk in Lagos against killings and insecurity nationwide.

Photos from the event showed him holding a placard inscribed “All Souls Are Precious to God”.
