BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – The Katsina State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports linking the recent violent clash that occurred at Yankara in Faskari Local Government Area of the state to Governor Dikko Radda’s Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign
Debunking claims that the incident was politically motivated, the government described the allegations as malicious attempts to destabilize the current administration, saying the political narrative is being pushed by opposing forces and some unscrupulous elements in the state.
Consequently, the administration has officially launched a high-level investigation to uncover the true root causes of the conflict with officials firmly asserting that the violence has absolutely nothing to do with political rivalries or party agendas.
An official statement by the government said preliminary findings showed that the disturbance stemmed from a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over designated procession routes, resulting in confusion along a public street in Yankara, noting that the incident was entirely unrelated to the governor’s campaign activities or the Tinubu-Dikko campaign rally held in Faskari.
The statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, said Governor Radda had passed through Yankara without incident on his way to Faskari, where he paid a courtesy visit to the District Head’s Palace and was received by the district head and other traditional rulers.
Insisting that the reports are malicious framing, the state government condemned those weaponizing the tragedy to score cheap political points and stir public unrest, while calling for calm and appealing to members of the public to remain calm, uphold peace, disregard misinformation and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension across the North West state.
The Probe And Next Steps•
Furthermore, the statement said with the government ordering full-scale investigation, a specialized panel has been set-up to immediately probe the incident and identify the actual instigators.
It stated that the government is guaranteeing justice and anyone found guilty of fueling or executing the clash will face the full wrath of the law, assuring that to restore public order, security operatives have been heavily deployed to Yankara to permanently stabilize the area, as well as protect lives and property
Meanwhile, the state government has urged relevant security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified where necessary.
Reports indicated that violence was reported in Yankara town on Saturday after suspected hoodlums attacked supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving several people injured and a campaign vehicle set ablaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers allegedly ambushed APC supporters heading to Governor Radda’s campaign rally in Faskari, disrupting movement along the major road and causing panic among residents.
Also, reports indicated that angry youths allegedly blocked the route penciled down for campaign convoy to and from the venue of the governor’s re-election campaigns in the area.
