Title Race: Man City Upbeat As Arsenal’s Blip Continues

Reigning English Premiership Champions, Manchester City are certainly upbeat that for the third consecutive time, current league leaders, Arsenal have handed them the advantage in the title race by drawing 3-3 with lowly Southampton on Friday

So for now, it is advantage the Cityzens and if the Gunners are still keen on winning the title this season, they must do it the hard way.

Though Mikel Arteta’s side may have shown good spirit to fight back with two late goals to salvage a 3-3 draw with Southampton, a draw against the Premier League’s bottom club is simply unacceptable at this stage of the season.

After dropping points against Liverpool and West Ham United, it was all down to Arsenal beating the Saints, especially with Wednesday night’s travel to face City at the Etihad Stadium looming large.

Clearly no thanks to a chaotic display, Arteta’s men needed two late goals from Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka to avoid what would have been an embarrassing home defeat.

Starting from the awful error from Aaron Ramsdale that gifted Carlos Alcaraz the opening goal inside 30 seconds and Theo Walcott making it 2-0 soon afterwards, Arsenal were woeful on the night.

Though Gabriel Martinelli reduced the deficit, a Duje Caleta-Car header midway through the second half restored Southampton’s two goal advantage and seemed to have buried the game for the visitors.

However, luck did smile on the league leaders as Odegaard and Saka’s late strikes drew them level in the closing stages before Leandro Trossard struck the bar in stoppage time as they went in search of what would have been a dramatic winner.

As Wednesday night beckons, Pep Guardiola, from wherever he was watching the proceedings at the Emirates Stadium, must have been beaming with smiles.

The City manager will have had his feet up watching the chaos unfold at the Emirates with his side seemingly seizing full control of the title race without even having to kick a ball.

Though Guardiola knows Arsenal could easily wrestle the advantage back on Wednesday night with a victory at the Etihad, he will be excited at the prospect of his key men, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, going up against the nervy Gunners’ defence that threw up keeper Aaron Ramsdale among the worst offenders on Friday night – With Goal.com report
