Tough Hurdles For Governor Bello As APC NWC Approves Indirect Primaries For Kogi
The National Working Committee (NWC), of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday approved Indirect Primaries to elect the Party’s candidate for the forthcoming Kogi Governorship election.
Governor Yahaya Bello has been lobbying and working assiduously to get the Party approve Direct primaries of the Party to facilitate his getting the Governorship ticket of the party but the Executive Committee members of the Party in the State and other stakeholders canvassed for Direct Primaries to give equal opportunity to all aspirants.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said the approval was given after a meeting of the NWC during which a formal request from the Kogi State executive and stakeholders in preference for the Indirect Primary was considered and deliberated on.
Issa-Onilu explained that the APC Constitution which was reemphasized by a decision of National Executive Committee (NEC), provides for three mode of primary election to elect Party candidates.
He said the three mode include; Indirect, Direct Primaries and consensus depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections.
The APC spokesman said the Party’s timetable for the sales of forms and conduct of primaries will be announced in due course.
