- Benue govt condoles bereaved family
A Senior Secondary School teacher with Jesus College, Otukpo in Benue State, Mr Ikwuatyum Ochoche, is still in shock and mourning for losing three of his four children in a midnight inferno that destroyed his entire residence within the College shortly before Christmas.
Not left alone in his time of grief, the Benue State Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, visited the Ochoche’s family house in Obaganya-Otukpo to condole with him and other family members over the unfortunate incident.
According to reports, the strange fire started in the night when the family members were fast asleep. However, the fourth (4th) child survived the incident as he was in another school.
In his condolence message, Deputy Governor Abounu, accompanied by his aides, encouraged Mr Ochoche who sustained serious injuries while trying to rescue his children from the fire, to take heart and remain comforted by God.
He urged Ochoche and his wife, who were the only survivors from the midnight fire, to look up to God for comfort and strength as no one else can comfort them at this time.
Speaking on behalf of his family, Mr Ochoche thanked the Deputy Governor for identifying with him and his wife in their hour of sorrow and for finding time off his busy schedule to visit the grieving family.
Lamenting that it was quite traumatic watching helplessly as his three children were consumed in the midnight fire, the bereaved School teacher said his family has no choice than looking up to God for comfort.
Ochoche prayed that God should bless the Deputy Governor and his family while also keeping them safe.
The Deputy Governor thereafter proceeded to the school compound where he was conducted around the burnt building to have first-hand knowledge of the extent of the damage.
