Tragedy: Lion Kills Handler At Obasanjo Library In Abeokuta, Ogun State

Tragedy stroked on Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital as a lion in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), reportedly killed its handler, Babaji Daule.

Forefront checks indicated that the unfortunate incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at the OOPL situated in Ogun State capital and was reported at about 7:40am by the Chief Security Officer of the OOPL.

The lion, it was gathered attacked its handler, Daule, a 35-year-old from Bauchi State, at the Zoological Garden of the OOPL.

It was gathered from a close source at the OOPL that the trained handler of the male lion at the Zoological Garden “mistakenly neglected to secure the locks and barricade of the lion’s enclosure before approaching the cage to feed it.

According to the source; “This costly mistake and or negligence made the lion to escape and attacked its handler thereby resulted in fatal injuries to the handler’s neck and his eventual death”.

It was also gathered that the lion had to be shot to release its grip on its handler after which the body of the victim was evacuated and later deposited at the Ijaye General Hospital.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, saying that information at her disposal as at the time she was speaking with journalists was still sketchy, thus assured to revert with more details as soon as they were available.
