As the world continues to celebrate golf legend, Tiger Woods for his remarkable comeback feat, President Donald Trump is taking the commendation a notch higher with the planned conferment of America’s highest civilian honour on the 43-year old American superstar.
Trump, a lifelong golfer and owner of golf resorts, made the announcement on Monday, a day after Woods stunned the golfing world by winning his fifth Augusta Masters title.
Returning from the golfing wilderness to end an 11-year Majors drought with the win at Augusta, Georgia, on Sunday, Woods has continued to earn praises from around the world.
He has now amassed 15 major titles, three shy of the 18 held by another golf legend, Jack Nicklaus.
In his usual self, Trump tweeted: “Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters.”
“Because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!” Trump said.
Trump is an especially close watcher of the game, being the owner of Trump-brand golf courses and something of a student of the game himself.
However, there have been multiple reports, including from established golfers that the American President cheats when competing on the golf course.
