BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Two persons were on Sunday, October 4, 2026, killed while seven others sustained serious injuries when gunmen attacked a vehicle conveying Fulani herders in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Sunday.
The attack took place at about 5:30 pm at Yelwa Club Junction, near Total Filling Station, as the victims were returning from the Kara Bukuru Cattle Market on their way to Bassa Local Government Area.
The Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the attack, saying the injured victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Babayo condemned the attack, saying it was “unprovoked and disturbing” and called on security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting Fulani herders travelling along the route to and from the Kara Bukuru market.

The attack occurred less than two weeks (September 20) after similar incident in which five Fulani herders were killed around Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while returning from the same market.
A statement on Sunday, October 4, 2026 by MACBAN stated that the repeated attacks had heightened fear among pastoralists and traders who depend on the market for their livelihoods.
“This unfortunate incident is deeply disturbing and represents yet another attack against innocent herders who were peacefully returning from their lawful business activities,” the association said.
MACBAN noted that five herders were killed in the September 20 attack around Kassa, adding that herders were also attacked near the Conoil Filling Station in December last year while returning from the market.
It further said; “The recurrence of such attacks has created fear and insecurity among law-abiding pastoralists and traders who depend on the market for their livelihood”.
MACBAN urged the Plateau State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Safe Haven, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to strengthen security along the Kara Bukuru market route.
It appealed to its members to remain calm and refrain from any form of retaliation, saying that it has confidence that the security agencies will carry out a professional investigation and ensure that justice is served.
