Two Women Flog New Wife For Marrying Divorcé

For daring to marry somebody’s former spouse, a new wife has allegedly been battered by two angry women in her husband’s residence in Lagos.

And the case is now before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos with March 31, 2021 fixed for the trial of both suspects accused of conspiring to beat up their victim.

The two defendants, 38-year-old Ruka Tayo and 35-year-old Jimoh Abiola of no specific addresses are currently standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit an offence and assault.

Both suspects however pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

In his submission before the court, the prosecutor, ASP Gbemileke Agoi, claimed both women committed the offences on February 26, 2021, at about 4pm at Road 7, Mowowole Estate, Oreta Igbogbo area of Ikorodu in Lagos State

According to Agoi, the defendants conspired to harass and beat up the complainant, one Mrs Adeyemi Morenikeji, at her husband’s residence because she married a former husband to one of them.

He said the complaint was assaulted at her new husband’s home, five years after the man had officially divorced one of the accused persons.

ASP Agoi said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 412 and 172 of Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate, Mrs R. A. Onilogbo, while admitting both defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 each, said they must also provide two sureties each in like sum.
