Two Years After, Man Who Beheaded Ex-LG Council Chair In Imo, Confesses

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has announced that the hoodlum who beheaded the chairman of Ideato North Local Government Area of the State, Christopher Ohizu has finally been arrested.

The governor who did not disclosed the identity of the suspect, said he was apprehended following two years of intensive search by security agencies.

Uzodimma said that the suspect has mentioned some individuals that he was working for, adding that some of them have been invited by the police and are presently undergoing interrogation, stressing that the government will stop at nothing to ensure that those who had a hand in the dastardly act, face the wrath of the law.

He noted that the arrest was a significant step in the state government’s continued efforts to combat insecurity and bring justice to the families of victims of political violence and banditry in the state.

The Governor who stated these in a video shared by Channels Television while addressing the prolonged search for the perpetrators behind the heinous crime which took place in 2023, said the deadly suspect has confessed to the crime.

Uzodimma said; “We were here sometimes two years ago when a council chairman was beheaded in Ideato North. Two years after, we have arrested the man who beheaded him and the man has confessed”.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to eliminating crimes and criminal elements in the state with a view to restore needed peace and assured that no crime will go unpunished in the State.

Uzodimma also said that some politicians were making frantic efforts to frustrate his administration’s efforts in restoring peace and calm in the state.

The Governor said; “It is not enough for people to come around me here to pretend to be working for me when they are busy participating in conspiracy, eliminating innocent lives and trying to pull down government.

“Government activity to make Imo State safe and secure will continue despite all odds. Within the next two weeks, every community in the State will have a functional Vigilance Group that is supported and funded by the government with every logistics in place for their operations,” he said.

Uzodimma sought the cooperation of all citizens of the State to ensure that the exercise is successful, warning those in the habit of frustrating the government’s good intentions for political interest, to desist in their own interest.

The late Ohizu, who served as the chairman of the LGA, was abducted and later beheaded in January, 2023, during the period of hike in insecurity in the southeast region of Nigeria.

His abductors reportedly subjected him to torture, and made him to say his final prayer before he was murdered as captured in a recorded video.
