BY KALMANA AFSA, BAUCHI – Towards improving the quality and quantity of Nurses, Midwives and other health care providers, a USAID funded program on the aegis of ‘Health Workforce Management Activity (HWMA) has donated 19 class teaching Aid, computers and projectors to Aliko Dangote College of Nursing, Bauchi and Bill and Melinda College of Health Technology, Ningi.
The gesture is in line with the mandate of HWM towards strengthening pre-service education that will produce skilled health force to meet the needs of the populace.

The project conduct Needs Assessment in the health institutions to determine their gaps while donation is based on this need.
In one of the Needs Assessment conducted, it was revealed that 193 out of the 323 main PHC lack the requisite human resources needed.
Presenting the items on behalf of USAID, Professor Oladosu Ojengbede, a consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, said the items are part of the requirements to produce skilled human resource adding that they are state of the art teaching aid.
Prof. Ojengbede also said that a five day training is also on going for Teachers from selected Health institutions as a pilot phase.
State Coordinator of HWMA, Nasir Saadu fakai said that the project is poised to position the institutions to meet the requirements for accreditation and called on organizations and government to provide such support as the schools need to be upgraded to start awarding degrees and Higher National Diploma HND.
While receiving the items, the Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of Health, Aliyu Babayo, said the state is indebted to the organization for the gesture and promised that the items will be used for the purpose intended.
Babayo said the state will continue to partner with any organization that is willing to complement the efforts of Bauchi state.
Some of the items include, Antishock used for prevention of bleeding after delivery, pelvic model, heart model, patent Nostrils among others.
The USAID HWMA project is implemented in five states of Kebbi, Sokoto, Ebonyi, the FCT and Bauchi.
