BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Cross River State Ministry of Information and Orientation now has a new Director of Information at its helm of affairs. She is a veteran journalist, Mrs Roseline Irek.
Her appointment follows the retirement of immediate past Information Director, Mrs Pauline Eba from the Cross River State Civil Service.
Until her new appointment, Mrs Irek, a former Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Cross River State chapter, was the Director of Orientation in the Ministry.
In taking over her new position, Irek pledged to run an open-door policy for the overall benefits of effective information management in the State.
Promising to make herself accessible to both Staff and the public requiring the services of her office, she said topping the agenda is her resolve to reinvent information management towards bringing back the Ministry’s glory and the good old days.
The Director, while soliciting the cooperation of every staff member, said a very crucial meeting has been fixed for Wednesday, 5th October 2022, and all Information Officers in the Ministry are expected to be in attendance.
She explained that the meeting is scheduled for 10 am prompt at the Conference Room, Ministry of Information and Orientation opposite Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar, the state capital.
A statement released by her office appealed to Information Officers to take the invitation for the meeting very seriously as it would avail them the opportunity to understand and contribute to her planned operational strategy.
As part of her official assignments in the Service, Mrs Irek served as the State Coordinator, Avian influenza control project, 2002-2006; Head, Critical Mass 2013 till date; Cross River State HIV Media Advocacy Group & Member, South South HIV Media Advocacy Group.
Similarly, she has been part of Cross River State HIV Prevention Technical Working Group (PTWG); Adolescent Prevention Technical Working Group (APTWG); and Member, Cross River State Social Mobilization Technical Committee.
Also her tour of duty and postings include: Cross River State House of Assembly, Ministry of Health & Social Services, Ministry of Lands & Housing, Ministry of Water Resources/Rural Water Supply Agency, Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA), and the Governor Wife’s Office among others.
