…Asks students to re-check new results in 24 hours

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on Thursday, August 7, 2025, tender an apology to candidates and members of the public over its recently released results of its conducted examination.

The apology by WAEC followed what it described as the ‘discovery of technical issues’ affecting the released results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School candidates.

The Council has therefore advised students that have already checked their results to do so again after the rectification period for updated and accurate information which is expected to be effected within 24 hours.

These were contained in a statement Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of the Public Affairs of Council’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos, who admitted that certain measures introduced to combat examination malpractice contributed to the issue. Adesina said that one such measures was a new innovation known as ‘paper serialisation’, adding that the method, which is already in use by another national examination body, was applied to key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

The spokesperson of WAEC further explained that an internal post-release review revealed unexpected technical bugs that affected the accuracy of the released scores.

Adesina said; “In light of this, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to results via its result-checking portal in order to address and rectify the anomalies”.

He reaffirmed the WAEC’s commitment to fairness and professionalism, pledging to resolve the matter transparently and within the next 24 hours.

“WAEC expressed regrets for any inconvenience caused to affected candidates. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our candidates and the general public as we work diligently to correct this matter.

“WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement said.
