Following his 23rd minute sending off for violent conduct during their Serie A opening game against Venezia, Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has warned Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen to control his emotional outbursts on the pitch going forward.

Speaking at a post-match conference, the tactician said on the expulsion of Osimhen; “He has to be careful of his emotional reactions.”

“Referee Aureliano was very correct when he explained it to me. Osimhen has to pay attention to his emotional reactions, he is a strong attacker and all the defenders will try to help themselves by limiting his physical exuberance.

“He will always have his hands on his opponents. He must be careful. The referee was corrected when I went to talk to him and he explained what he saw”, Spalletti said

The Super Eagles forward is expected to miss Napoli’s next two Serie A matches against Genoa and Juventus, on August 29 and September 11

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Spalletti’s men held their nerves and prevented the visitors from scoring before half-time, when they made some tactical changes. With 10 men, they still went ahead to record a 2-0 victory in the encounter.

The match played at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, had the Nigerian sent off for violent conduct on Daan Heymans during a corner-kick situation in the 23rd minute.

After the restart, Napoli cruised to victory with Lorenzo Insigne and Eljif Elmas finding the back of the net, in the 62nd and 72nd minutes, respectively.

However, reacting to Osimhen’s straight red, a lawyer and sports law expert, Eduardo Chiacchio said; “It was not a violent act with a distant ball. In the latest consolidated jurisprudence, the actions that occur in the area as a result of a set-piece are considered gestures that fall within the anti-sporting act, not violence because the ball is in play,” he said.
“Jurisprudence has now consolidated in considering it incorrect or unsportsmanlike. Two rounds disqualification? If it is a violent act they should be 2, but it is not and therefore only 1 day, also because the opponent immediately got up and there was no need even for a doctor,” Chiacchio told Kiss Kiss Napoli. – With Agency reports
