BY EVELYN DADU, ABUJA – A Rivers State High Court sitting in Degema on Monday granted an ex-parte motion stopping the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus from parading himself as the chairman of the party.
The order of the Court is predicated on an exparte motion brought before it by some four aggrieved members of the PDP namely Ibeawuchi Ernest, Dennis Amadi, Emmanuel Stephen and Umezirike Onucha that also sought to sack Prince Secondus as a member of the PDP.
The lingering leadership crises rocking the PDP being the
main opposition party had resulted in series of calls for the resignation of Prince Secondus as National Chairman of the party.
It was also gathered that the four aggrieved went to Court following moves by Secondus to discountenance the agreement reached by stakeholders of the party to ensure that he steps down in October to allow for a new leadership of the PDP to emerge.
Secondus had during the stakeholders meeting in Abuja agreed for an earlier convention in October where he is expected not to seek reelection.
However, the granting of the exparte order by a Rivers State Court has further buttressed speculations that Governor Nyesom Wike, who was the brain behind the emergence of Prince Secondus as National Chairman of the PDP, is the same person at the forefront of pushing him out of office ahead of the 2023 political permutations.
