We Need A More Pragmatic And Proactive Approach To Curtailing Insecurity – Governor Ishaku
BY AMEH IDUGAJI, JALINGO – Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has stressed the need for a more pragmatic and proactive approach towards curtailing the incessant security challenges confronting the country.
The Governor, who stated this while inaugurating the State Community Policing Advisory Committee at the Executive Chambers of the Government House, Jalingo on Saturday, said insecurity was the major problem bedeviling the nation.
Represented by his Deputy Governor, Mr Haruna Manu, the governor commended the Nigeria Police in their efforts in fighting crimes in the country, adding that community policing is one of the best approaches of curbing criminality around the globe.
He said that the inauguration of the committee would no doubt help greatly in reducing the tensions associated with calls from states, pressure groups and regional bodies for different forms of security outfit in the country.
Ishaku expressed optimism that the inauguration of the Advisory Committee would help in no small measure in addressing the various forms of criminality in the State.
While calling on the members of the committee to work assiduously to curb the high level of criminal activities in the State, Ishaku assured of his commitment to protect lives and property of the citizens.
Speaking at occasion, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General in-charge of Logistics and Supply, Aminchi Samaila Baraya, said that the basic components of community policing include inter-agency cooperation, problem solving and intelligence led policing.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Azare and the Aku Uka Shekarau Angyu Masa ibi are to serve as co-chairmen of the committee while members include all heads of security agencies in the state, representative of police community relations committee, one representative each from Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council as well as a representative from each of the three senatorial districts in the state.
