President Bola Tinubu has described as barbaric and unacceptable the brutal killing of 12 travellers, including members of a wedding entourage, in Plateau State.

Condemning the attack in strong terms, the President directed the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The victims, among them the father and brother of the groom, were reportedly travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos in Plateau State when they were ambushed and lynched by unidentified assailants.

In the process, several other travellers sustained injuries during the attack.

A statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, quoted the President as tasking the Police as well as security and intelligence agencies to ensure that perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book speedily.

According to Mr President, “The government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence”.

He further stated thus; “The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences.”

While emphasizing the constitutional right of all Nigerians to move freely across the country, President Tunubu warned that the Federal Government would not tolerate any group or individual attempting to restrict that freedom through violence or intimidation.

The President declared; “Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear”.

While pleading for calm on the Plateau in the aftermath of the attack, President Tinubu assured citizens that those behind the atrocity would face the full weight of the law.

He also extended his condolences to the bereaved families while expressing sympathy to the people and government of Kaduna State over the tragic loss.
