…Accuses Tinubu of hijacking June-12 history
Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Sule Lamido, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a carcass of the Peoples DemAlhaja Abibatu Mogajiocratic Party (PDP), stressing that most of its leaders are products of the main opposition party.
This was as he accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of struggling to rewrite the story of June 12, by turning historical sacrifices of core pro-June-12 loyalists into theatre.
He explained that if the PDP is perceived to be dead, it goes to show that the APC is a ghost party.
Lamido, who stated these when he featured on Arise Television News programme, said that a perusal of the membership list of the APC clearly indicated that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Adams Oshiomhole can claim the APC label.
According to Lamido; “So, if PDP has died, then what is left of APC is a haunted structure—soulless and borrowed”.
Commenting on the struggle for June-12, Lamido said that Tinubu is busy entertaining Nigerians with dramatics, stressing that majority of those who were die hard loyalists of the June-12 struggle are still alive.
In the words of Lamido; “Bola Tinubu only became active in June-12 after Abacha took over. Before then, he was passive, even supportive of Babangida. His mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji led Lagos market women to Abuja to endorse Babangida. That is history.
“Tinubu and others fled the country and returned only after the struggle ended. They inherited the product, not the process. Those of us who stayed behind were detained. We fought,” he said.
Lamido, who was a founding member of the PDP, therefore cautioned Nigerians against confusing political showmanship with democratic sacrifice, stressing that NADECO, often hailed as a democracy movement, came late and was more reactive than revolutionary.
According to Lamido; “NADECO was not for June 12. It was formed to fight Abacha. June 12’s real heroes were already standing up long before that”.
Lamido pointedly accused President Tinubu of weaponizing national institutions for partisan interests, citing the use of the Presidential Villa for APC events.
He further said; “How do you explain turning the Villa—our national seat of power—into an APC clubhouse? That tells you this is no longer a Nigerian government. It’s a party government.”
Lamido also castigated Governor Pastor Umo Eno, for disowning the PDP after benefiting from it, stressing that two years ago, nobody knew him.
According to Lamido; “The PDP made him governor. Today, he disowns the very foundation that gave him relevance. That is not politics; that is betrayal.
“When I left PRP in 1983, I resigned. That’s integrity. Today, people switch parties and erase the past that built them”.
Lamido said that his mission is beyond party lines, saying that it is about saving the country from what a regime that is on autopilot.
He further said; “I am part of any arrangement—whatever the chemistry, name, or configuration—to remove this government of incompetence, insecurity, and ethnic division. Nigeria is bigger than any party”.
