BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Police Command in Bauchi has said that its officers and men are working to unravel the mysterious death of a 37year old businessman, Late Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu in Boi village in Bogoro Local Government Area of the State.
The death of Chukwjekwu took place barely one week after the abduction of a young politician, Markus Masoyi in the same Boi village by unknown gunmen who are still holding him captive and demanding N100m ransom.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakili said the report of the mysterious death has been received by the Command, adding that investigation in to the matter has commenced to unravel what led to it.
According to Wakili; “One Mrs Grace Chukwuemeka, 27 years old, reported at the Bogoro Divisional headquarters on 30th November, 2022 that her husband, Mr. Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu left home for his provision shop located at Boi and since then he did not return.
“Immediately when she reported, the DPO, Bogoro led a team of detectives to organise a search party in the area, consequently, he was found dead in a hotel room situated at Tudun Wada area of Boi in Bogoro LGA lying on the floor with saliva and foams from his mouth.
The DPO and his men evacuated the corpse to the General Hospital, Bogoro where he was certified dead by a Medical Doctor on duty.
“Presently, the Commissioner of Police has ordered for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death. Investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesman said.
The late Chukwunonso, who was into provisions selling business, hailed from Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday, December 1, 2022, two days after he was declared missing.
A member of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the area, Comrade Joel Daniel, said that the incident has left many residents of the area in total confusion considering the circumstances leading to it.
Daniel said that the deceased was found dead in a hotel room after he was reported missing and reported to the PCRC as well as the Police Division in Bogoro.
A resident of the village who simply identified himself as Gomns, said; “I am shocked to receive the sad news of the death of Mr Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu popularly known by many as Nonso. The deceased has contributed immensely to the development of Boi community that was why he was turbaned as the Kaigaman Boi by the paramount ruler of Boi, Malam Bala Ibrahim Likita on 29th September, 2019. The people of Boi will miss him. We stand with his beloved wife and children, his brothers and sisters,” he said.
The late Nonso, who lived in Boi for the past 20 years is known to be a man full of charitable works and was believed to have participated in the Igbo end of year party which took place on Wednesday night in the area being an active member of the Igbo community meeting in the area.
Until his death he was the Onyewetehi of Nandi and turbaned as the Kaigaman Boi by the paramount ruler of Boi, Malam Bala Likita.
