Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has said that the interest of the South East would be better achieved through the Atiku Abubakar presidential route.
This was as he expressed optimism that the PDP would win the 2023 presidential election in spite of some disagreements in the party.
Nwodo, who made these submissions at the 2022 End of Year celebration of Ukehe people of Enugu state in Abuja, said that Atiku would surely give the Igbos their dues.
He noted that in spite of the efforts of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr, Peter Obi, no politician of note has resigned as either Local Government chairman, member of the House of Assembly, Representatives, or the Senate from PDP to join the Labour party.
While wishing Peter Obi well, Nwodo however said that politics is a game of numbers, stressing that the Igbo’s best bet is with the PDP.
Speaking on the Ukehe Association’s End of year celebration, Nwodo urged the people to sustain their unity and assistance to one another for the general progress of the union.
In his own remarks, the chairman of Ukehe General Assembly Abuja, and Deputy Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mr. Ifesi Nwodo assured that the association would continue to protect the interest of its members in line with their culture.
The Ukehe people hail from Igbo Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu state and have a culture that prohibits burying of indegenes outside their ancestral land.
Highlight of the event was the conferment of awards on Ukehe sons and daughters that distinguished themselves during the year.
